Explore ways of seeing with this well-established drawing course.  It’s always a great pleasure to teach my favourite course at West Dean.  The house, gardens and grounds are all fabulous, as is the ever-varied food menu!  The work focuses on the process of mark-making in response to quality of vision.  Studio-based exercises will be the focus for the first day, subsequently taken out to the landscape.  Weather permitting we’ll also take our sketch books to the remarkable Yew forest of Kingley Vale – on the doorstep of West Dean.

After a year’s absence, the return of my Illustration course at wonderful West Dean College.  Bring a favourite text and as much picture research as you can manage.  The course focuses on the process of turning your ideas into a series of images best able to tell the story of your chosen prose.  Stage by stage you’ll be guided through storyboarding, character development, making a rough dummy and working with a publisher.

Are the mountains calling you? Margaret and I are honoured to announce 2012 dates for our highly regarded Nature of Seeing highland adventure. The biggest thankyou to all those who participated in last year’s course and gave us such positive feedback – we’ll welcome any of you back this year! Through variations on drawing combined with healing exercises, designed to aid the creative flow, this course will fully immerse you in the process of how we see and move you beyond the constraints of the mind. Structured indoor exercises will give you disciplines to be taken into the beautifully diverse, but otherwise overwhelming landscape. The scenery and tranquility of Ardverikie estate is unique and ever-changing and has to be seen and experienced to be believed. As well as the usual suspects of red deer, red squirrel and the wonderful birdlife, last year we saw the eagles again and were blessed with our first otter sighting and a remarkably close encounter with a late-night Pine Marten!
